Quadruple F is all about home and comfort. All of the images in the painting have symbolic meaning to me: The red plant is a Chaconia, the national flower of Trinidad. The hummingbird is the national bird of the island nation, and also debuts in the piece alongside my cat Eggs and a cheep cheep from the island world (World 3) of Super Mario Bros. - a game I frequently play on the airplane to Trinidad during family trips. The hibiscus is a plant native to Trinidad and one of my grandmother’s favorite flowers; her garden is never complete without them. The purple plant is lavender, my own personal emblem of comfort and relaxation. I am half nude because it is when I am at my most comfortable and vulnerable; naked, like the day I was born. I wanted the painting to feel energized and resolved through color, which I did through implementing a similar color palette in all crevices of the work and collaging bright imagery together.
This is my favorite piece to date, and I truly love the confidence that exuberates from this painting; I felt so at-home and all aspects of it came together quite naturally. This is truthfully the least frustrating experience I’ve ever had with a work I’ve produced, for the fact that I did not allow myself to stress over the small details. I was certain that the end result would convey what I intended, and it does, in a bright and aura-inducing way. The colors mirror of a lot of my earlier works from high school, as well as the natural colors found around Trinidad.
